History Of Isolo, Lagos
Legend has it that Isolo was founded by a man named Akinbaiye, an Awori native from Ile-Ife. Akinbaiye was not only a warrior but also a skilled hunter and farmer. One fateful day, while hunting, he came across the tracks of an elephant. Determined to show off his skills, he decided to pursue and kill the elephant. However, when he tried to skin the animal, he realized that his tools were too dull. To remedy the situation, he found a nearby grinding stone to sharpen his tools.
After his adventure, Akinbaiye shared the story with his community, referring to the place where he sharpened his tools as “Iso Olo,” which means “the place of the grinding stone.” Eventually, Akinbaiye and his family moved to this location, and the area became known as Isolo.
