The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has criticised the Oyo State government’s proposal to clear Agodi Phase 2 of the Ogunpa Forest Reserve for an estate.
The NCF’s director general, Joseph Onoja, expressed his concern at the foundation’s annual general meeting in Lagos, emphasising the necessity of raising awareness to protect Nigeria’s rich wildlife.

Onoja emphasised that many people are uninformed of the value of nature and Nigeria’s rich biodiversity, which leads to their exploitation. He notably criticised the continuing clearance of the Ogunpa forest reserve near Ibadan, stating that it is unjustifiable and might have been avoided with better communication.
He urged the Oyo State government, particularly Governor Seyi Mankinde, to reconsider its decision to remove the forest. Onoja cautioned that if the destruction continues, it could cause severe flooding and landslides in Ibadan, endangering inhabitants. He emphasised the necessity of environmental protection for human well-being.

He emphasised the importance of continuing efforts to recognise and provide resources for environmental preservation.
