The Lagos State Government is teaming up with private companies to tackle building collapses more effectively.

The collaboration, known as the “Accredited Certifiers Programme,” aims to boost the government’s ability to monitor and enforce building regulations across the state.

Dr. Olajide Babatunde, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Electronic Geographical Information System and Urban Development, revealed this plan in Lagos. It comes as a response to the government’s review of the Lagos State Tribunal’s report on the building collapse at 44 Gerrard Road, Ikoyi. The report highlighted the need for better cooperation between the public and private sectors to improve monitoring and inspection of construction projects.

The goal of this partnership is to prevent building collapses by ensuring thorough monitoring and inspection of all ongoing construction projects. Babatunde emphasized that government efforts alone are insufficient for this task.
